The Great Gatsby

I’ve recently completed my nineteenth century course, and while I’ve developed an unhealthy love for the genre I needed a change of pace. So I decided to cross one of my list and pull out the Great Gatsby.

I found this novel extremely engaging. There were twists and turns, things you never expected to happen in a book. I was hooked. The only thing I did not understand, and this really has nothing to do with the quality of the book.. How do people base their wedding theme on this?! Either I missed something..or they never read the book or seen the movie ( of course depending on the movie adaption.. Which I have not seen but intend to now just to ease my mind.)

I found this novel to be refreshingly honest and straight forward. There is no sugar coating, no skipping over unpleasant details just a raw account for these lives in the 20’s. Which I might add is strikingly similar to some lives in the small town I live in.

I found this book to be a great pallet cleanser from the in depth reads of the nineteenth century, where you’re reading between the lines. This novel is blunt, an easy read. Although subject matter is entirely different. I am inspired however to take another look at Ernest Hemingway who on my initial read of The Sun Also Rises I did not enjoy mostly due to his writing style, though I find Fitzgerald similar and perhaps I owe Ernest Hemingway another chance.
